WebYeah, in my experience VM image performance is really bad when the image file is on a CoWed btrfs. I think best practice is to put it in a nodatacow subvolume and use raw image instead of qcow2. If you just place it into a directory the data might still accidentally be CoWed through things like snapshots (AFAIK).
