Did you know?
WebAlbatrellus ovinus (commonly known as Sheep Polypore) is a terrestrial polypore fungus found in western North America, and Northern Europe. It is very closely related to the rarer A. subrubescens, [1] from which it may be distinguished microscopically by the amyloid spore wall. It is edible and sold commercially in Finland. WebAlbatrellus flettii is larger (up to 20 cm broad), and has a white pore surface (salmon colored at maturity), clamp connections, and smaller spores (3.5-4 x 2.5-3 µm). Pileus to 6 cm broad, ± circular, ± smooth, gray to indigo blue maturing to pale gray brown. Pore surface gray to blue, drying brownish to bright reddish orange.
WebBoletopsis grisea is most likely to be confused with other fleshy, terrestrial polypores, two of which are Albatrellus flettii and Jahnoporus hirtus. The former differs in having a bluish cap, and salmon-colored pores in age, while Jahnoporus hirtus has a grey-brown, occasionally purple-brown, tomentose cap. http://www.alpental.com/psms/ddd/Russulales/Albatrellaceae.htm
